Eric Bostrom’s Fundraiser “Burleskimo” Tray

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Eric Bostrom's Burleskimo TrayI’m sooo excited to report that the “Burleskimos” will be carrying tempting treats for sale in cigarette girl type trays that are custom designed by local kewl artists!

Eric Bostrom designed this wonderful piece. I can’t wait to see the illustration to compliment this design. Skye deftly cut this one to Eric’s specs. See more of Eric’s amazing and prolific work at his artful site.

Other artists include Will Smith, Jacquie and Djuna (Spring and Todd Barricklow’s 6 year old and very creative daughter), plus I’m courting Meredith Hamilton and Phoebe Stewart Washer.

Note that the boxes will be put to good use during the event for selling goodies and then auctioned later to lucky collectors (let me be one, let me be one…).

Burleskimo Costume Making Begins

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

Jacquie and Choklit fitting a vestThe talented and lovely Choklit and Jacquie began work yesterday on the furrlicious Burleskimos costumes yesterday.

See the Ice-Pics gallery…

Look out people, we’ve got some sexy boys and girls to show off at the fundraiser.

2 BTWs:

1) Stay tuned to upcoming pictures documenting the incredible Burleskimo goodie trays as works-in-progress. FYI: The trays are being custom designed by local luminary underground artists such as Will Smith (see more work at Killing Time Studios) and Eric Bostrom (his diversionmary site).

More artists to come. These trays are going to be amazing and boo-tee-fool! I hope to get photos of each as they are built and illustrated.

2) Flyering is working folks! Strangers we meet are talking about the fundraiser before we even assail them with yet more flyers (which we do anyway)!

Cinco de Ice-Flø Notes

Monday, May 7th, 2007

My fabulous Flø-Goers! Thanks to all for a kick-ass productive meeting on Saturday night. For those who couldn’t join the fun, here are a few highlights. Most talk was of the Fundraiser on June 16th.

*Promotions: Fudo designed a ridiculously cool flyer for the event, and we’ll be printing up 1000 of these puppies, so prepare to start wallpapering the area with them. All performers need to be confirmed by Friday May 11th so we can finalize the flyer. We’d also like to make sure we get the event into the Bohemian, and construct and paint some sandwich-board signs for both ends of town.

*Raffle: We nixed the silent auction idea in favor of an easier-to-manage raffle with 3 or 4 large ticket items. Items may include: case of wine, Baby Seal Club playing your private party, possible donation from Sebastopol Brewing Co. of dinner for two or a keg… Any ideas, let us know. We are also seeking a Raffle Wrangler - someone to coordinate the donation of these items, ticket sales, and then announce the winners at the event.

Burlesquimos!!*Girls and Boys: We decided to have Cigarette Girls and Boys roaming the floor with boxes of treats for sale - including but not limited to: cupcakes and chocolates by Mani, small pieces of art, Otterpops, raffle tickets, blinkies… And we’re calling these hotties… (drumroll please)… Burlesquimos!! (thanks Bryce for the gem of a name!) We’ve got a full roster of Burlesquimo volunteers. Choklit will make their costumes and Skye will build their goody boxes.

*Cabaret Stage: Brooke joined us for the first time (welcome Brooke!) and agreed to manage an outdoor Cabaret Stage in the patio with smaller acoustic and circus-y performances - stilters, bellydance… Lisa from the Brewery is checking into possibility of fire dancing in the patio.

*Decor: Joe will co-chair lighting and decor committee with Lance and Jan. Lots of great ideas coming out already, including turning the whole performance space into an ice-cave with fog machines, fans and translucent plastic dropcloths, creating ice-berg-like structures to light and place around the venue, having projection of icy video footage, hosting a photo booth where partygoers can pose on a wacky ice-floe backdrop, making some sort of sno-globe people can put their head into and take pictures, decorating with strategically placed stuffed penguins, renting inflatable decor from Inflata-Bill, and beyond. Anyone who has blue or white lightrope, bring it on.

*Performers: Confirmed so far are BSC, Chango B. and Malarkey on the turntables, Soul Funkstress Rose Harting, Amrita BollyWood Dancers, and Tribal Fire Collective (if Brewing Co. confirms fire is ok). We are still on the hunt for one more high-energy local band to round out the live talent roster.

Clearly, this is shaping up to be a phenomenal evening. Email us at info@babysealclub.com if there’s something special you’d like to help with or if you have any ideas. Next meeting will focus on Art Car Design.

And don’t forget to sign up here for access to the all-powerful BaseCamp!!!

I only have ice for you,
Choklit

Meet the Flo-Goers

  • (Our apologies that this site hasn't been updated nearly enough. Brains on overload.)

    ART CAR
    UPDATES

The DJ Booth/Bar, electrical wiring and benches to be finished this week. Inner parachute gets hung after that, followed by ice cave decorations.

Anybody interested in building a mini berg or two to drift along the playa with the Ice Flø? It was part of our original vision but a couple of our peeps dropped out. We've got extra material you can use. Consider converting a bicycle into a mini-berg or a kiddie trailer. Anything on wheels really. It will look amazing to have other icebergs flowing with us!

    THANKS, NICK!

A SPECIAL THANKS to Nick Vankrijdt for donating approximately $1000 in materials to our effort! We love you Nick!

    FUNDRAISER PARTY: A BIG SUCCESS!

For those who haven't read it, here's the Bohemian story about our Ice Flo Party..
